Jul 1st-Jul 8th: New Work by Stephanie Richards
Time: Gallery Hours
A native of Two Harbors and a recent graduate from the Studio Art Program at UMD, Stephanie Richards is an exciting emerging artist we discovered through her participation in the “Unapologetic” GLBT/Pride Show last summer. Richards will be exhibiting a series of new paintings that depict each of the 19 houses she has lived in over the course of her life. Though she identifies herself as a painter, Richards’ work has a highly graphic visual sensibility that comes from her non-traditional technical approach. She is certainly one of a new generation of painters working out how to keep painting as a current medium in the world of contemporary art. Exhibit is held at the Duluth Art Institute (The Depot).

Jul 1st-Aug 5th: Dialogue with the Landscape: New Paintings by Ann Jenkins
Time: Gallery Hours
Ann Jenkins has been one of the primary voices in contemporary landscape painting in the Northland for the past decade. One has only to look at her prolific output to get a sense of her commitment and vision as an artist—so much so that it is tempting to refer to her opera as a “school” of painting all by itself! Jenkins retired from her post at the Duluth Public Library several months ago and now devotes herself painting fulltime. The Duluth Art Institute is proud to mount an exhibition of her work at this transition point in her life.

**Jul 3rd: B.B. King - Live at the Big Top!
Time: 7:30 pm
“[His] music, born of his vision, worried into perfection over years of hard meticulous work, has shaped and colored the whole of the modern blues to the degree that virtually no performer of the music since his time has escaped the pull of its all-persuasive influence. He has become the single most popular and successful of all blues performers of modern times. The real foundation of his music, no less than his great success, has been the direct, earthy fundamentalism of the blues which he continues to perform with a brilliant, fervent contemporaneity of feeling as have few others.” Writer Pete Welding in the blues history “Bluesland.” Reserved seating: $115/$95/$85/$70.
